The Best Hawaii Souvenirs to Bring Home from Paradise
There’s no shortage of Hawaii souvenirs to bring home. Below we round some of our very favorites; from tried and true to unique offerings sure to delight yourself and others.
The Best Souvenirs From Hawaii to Buy
Hawaii Souvenirs: Authentic Kona Coffee
100% Kona Coffee is one of the most celebrated coffees in the world. When staying on the Big Island, be sure to spend some time in the Kona Coffee Belt, a narrow 35-mile-long mountainous terroir. Stop by one of the many Kona Coffee plantations where you can tour the farm and purchase beans. Although true Kona coffee is some of the most expensive coffee in the world, once you try it, you’ll be a convert. If you aren’t going to the Big Island, Kona coffee can be purchased in many stores throughout Hawaii – but read the label carefully. You’ll need to make sure it isn’t a Kona coffee blend – but pure Kona coffee.
Hawaiian Pineapples
Hands down one of the best Hawaii souvenirs, you’ll be pleased to know that many pineapple farms will ship your pineapples home for you (for a cost). If you don’t mind carrying your Hawaii pineapples on the plane, usually they will sell them already packaged for easy transport. One of the best places to sample and buy pineapples is on Maui. Our Maui All-Inclusive Vacation Packages include a tour of a working Maui pineapple farm, and guests will receive a free pineapple to take home!
Hawaii Souvenirs: Macadamia Nuts
Hawaii’s favorite nut: the creamy, buttery, slightly sweet macadamia nut, is always a crowd pleaser. Although you can purchase the familiar blue can in many stores, bags of nuts from this macadamia farm are always requested by friends and family. They have regular salted and unsalted, as well as many fun flavors to choose from. Best part is – you can sample all the varieties before you buy. If you have a sweet tooth, opt for the brown boxes of chocolate-covered mac nuts instead.
Poi in a Bag
This one may sound like strange Hawaii souvenir, but if you want to bring your friends and family a taste of Hawaii – stop by a supermarket before you fly home. Here you can purchase poi-in-a-bag, which is literally…poi in a bag! Check out this blog post for Kapy’s Kalua pig recipe. Make steamed rice and mac salad in addition to your poi, and you can throw a luau back home!
Hawaii Souvenirs: Aloha Shoyu
Know someone who loves to cook? Then consider bringing home a bottle of Aloha shoyu. Locals rarely say soy sauce; instead they use the Japanese work of shoyu when referring to the unofficial-official condiment of Hawaii. And only one brand will do: Aloha.
Crack Seed
Although not as common as they once were, you may still notice crack seed shops in Hawaii. Crack seed refers to a range of li hing mui flavored and preserved seeds, fruits and peels that originated in China. Many varieties of candy are also coated in li hing mui powder, which has a similar flavor profile to chamoy and tajin.
Hawaii Souvenirs: Fresh Flower Leis
Bring home the beauty of the islands with a lei. Once the flowers wilt, they will dry beautifully. If you don’t want to wear your lei home on the plane, many lei shops offer Mainland shipping.
Alcohol
For an adults-only Hawaii souvenir, bring home a unique bottle of sake from Honolulu’s The Sake Shop. Additionally, there’s Pau Maui Vodka, Koloa Rum from Kauai, or a bottle of pineapple wine from Tedeschi Winery.
Hawai Souvenirs: Cookies
There are some delicious cookies in Hawaii! Two of our favorite cookie outlets are Big Island Candies and the Honolulu Cookie Company. Both companies offer similar goodies, with the signature being chocolate-dipped shortbreads. There are also unique flavors such as pineapple, lilikoi, macadamia nut, matcha, guava and more!
Clothing
Don’t forget to take home a ubiquitous aloha shirt! They have come a long way from the polyester 1970’s styles. Tori Richard has a wide array of stunning aloha and resort wear to keep you hanging loose at home. Hilo Hattie is a great place to shop for muumuus, and you can visit the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet for beautiful pareos and sarongs.
Hawaii Souvenirs: Diamond Bakery Products
Bring back a taste of Hawaii with the delicious crackers and cookies from this local favorite. Their soda crackers pair perfectly with a bowl of chili, and they have cookies in a wide range of flavors such as ube, coconut, cornflake, guava and lychee.
Christmas Ornaments
A Christmas ornament is a perfect memento of your Hawaiian vacation. They are easy to find in Waikiki’s shopping areas.
Hawaii Souvenirs: Hawaiian Jewelry
A more expensive Hawaii souvenir is jewelry, such as black pearls, coral jewelry and Hawaiian necklaces and bracelets. Check out Maui Divers for many lovely options.
Local Art
Everything from fine art to vintage prints can be found at galleries around the island. A favorite gallery is the Green Room in Haleiwa, and the Sunshine Arts Gallery in Kaneohe. Most galleries will package and ship back home for you.
Hawaii Souvenirs: Children’s Gifts
Books about Hawaii, locally made toys, beautifully-printed clothing and blankets make the perfect Hawaii souvenir for the keikis (children) in your life. If you’re in Haleiwa, stop by the Growing Keiki.
