Hawaii’s Top Attractions
As you can imagine, this could be a crazy long list. Bearing that in mind, we’ve decided to only include the things we think are the absolute top attractions in Hawaii. To keep it as simple as possible for you, we are categorizing them by island. Furthermore, if we have already created an in-depth post about an attraction, we will simply link to that, to save you time.
Hawaii’s Top Attractions: Oahu
Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial
This is easily the most-visited attraction in Hawaii. Over 2 million people flock to this solemn memorial annually. You may want to make an entire day of it, and also visit the USS Missouri, Pacific Aviation Museum, and Punchbowl Cemetery, but the must-see portion is the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and the USS Arizona. An incredible experience you’ll never forget.
Waikiki Beach
Don’t skip one of the most iconic beaches in the world. Waikiki is a vibe all its own, and you have to see it to believe it. And we’re not only talking about the beach; you can also indulge in world-class shopping, dining and entertainment.
Haleiwa & Oahu’s North Shore
This is where the surfing lifestyle all began. The sleepy North Shore and charming Haleiwa Town are a top attraction in Hawaii. Must-see beaches include Waimea, Sunset, Shark’s Cove and Banzai Pipeline. After spending a morning soaking in the radiant Hawaiian sun, you can most up the road to Haleiwa where you’ll find quirky shops and restaurants. Don’t forget the shave ice!
Oahu’s Windward Side
There’s something mystical about the lush windward side of Oahu. Whether you take a drive on the H-3, view it from windy Pali Lookout, or sail out to a sandbar; you won’t be disappointed. The majestic Ko’olau Mountains meet the sea on this side of Oahu, creating a jaw-dropping landscape. The air even smells green over here. Other highlights are Kualoa Ranch, Chinaman’s Hat and Kahana Bay.
Diamond Head
You can’t forget about Diamond Head! Although you’ll enjoy and magnificent view of this dormant volcano from Waikiki Beach, spend a morning and hike to the summit. The views will take your breath away (and maybe the hike will too 😉).
Hanauma Bay
Undoubtedly one of Hawaii’s top attractions is Hanauma Bay. Snorkel in a flooded, extinct volcanic crater and be mesmerized by the underwater world below. Don’t forget to plan ahead – Hanauma Bay is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and you must have a reservation in advance. We also advise you to go early because they only allow 1400 visits per day.
Hawaii’s Top Attractions: Maui
Hana Highway
The legendary Road to Hana wins the Top Attraction in Maui award. Indeed, you’ll need to pencil in an entire day to make this trek, but it’s worth it. If you drive it on your own, take your time because not only is there a lot to see, but there’s also 620 curves and 59 bridges! Therefore, we think a guided tour is the way to go. That’s why our All-Inclusive Maui Vacation Package has a guided Hana Tour already included. There are many gems to see as you make your way to Hana Town, such as the Seven Sacred Pools, a black sand beach, Garden of Eden Botanical Gardens, Twin Falls, Wailua Falls, Palapala Hoomau Church and much, much more. Even if you didn’t stop at all, this stunningly scenic drive would still be worth it.
Haleakala Crater & Upcountry
Maui’s Haleakala translates to house of the sun, therefore it’s no surprise that watching the sunrise is one of the most popular things to do here. This dormant volcano is the crown jewel of Maui, and whether you’re visiting the summit for the sunrise, hiking through the crater, exploring the visitor center or being adventurous and biking down the mountain, it’s a must-see. Haleakala’s fertile slopes are ideal for agriculture, such as juicy tomatoes, mild Maui onions and sweet pineapples. Visit one of the many farms upcountry, especially the ones listed here.
Kaanapali Resort District
Aaah, Kaanapali. This is where the “Maui resort lifestyle” began, specifically at the legendary Sheraton Maui Resort. Miles of soft, golden sand, gently-lapping azure water and swaying palm trees beckon you. if you’re visiting Maui, we suggest a resort in Kaanapali, therefore all the Maui hotels we offer are located in this exclusive resort area. If the ocean calls to you, carve out some time to snorkel in front of iconic Black Rock.
Molokini Crater
Speaking of snorkeling, don’t forget about Molokini Crater. This partially-submerged, flooded extinct volcanic crater boasts some of the best snorkeling in Maui. You’ll need to sail out to Molokini, so book a tour or even better; book one of our Maui All-Inclusive Vacations and let us book everything for you!
Hawaii’s Top Attractions: Kauai
Waimea Canyon
Nicknamed by Mark Twain as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, you’ve got to see this natural wonder. Vivid terracotta streaked with green, cascading waterfalls, hiking trails and more await you.
Hanalei
This picturesque valley and town on Kauai’s north side will charm the socks off of you. Neatly rowed taro fields, rainbows, a cute bridge and eccentric shopping will make you never want to leave!
Wailua River
Check out this sleepy river which snakes it’s way through Kauai’s lush landscape. Catch a riverboat and view the fabled Fern Grotto, or try your hand at kayaking or paddle boarding.
Napali Coast
Definitely one of Hawaii’s top attractions, so don’t forget to make this one a priority. Although mainly accessible via air or sea, there is an extremely challenging and dangerous hike. A permit is required, and only people who are highly-seasoned hikers, in the utmost of physical condition are recommended to attempt this hike. Since that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the easier ways to view the Napali Coast. Helicopter tours are a great way to see not only the coastline, but the valleys too. A doors-off helicopter adds to the thrill. We love a sunset sail along the coastline…you’ll see the majestic cliffs jutting into the sea, as well as cascading waterfalls plunging into the ocean below.
Hawaii’s Top Attractions: The “Big Island” of Hawaii
Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park
Without a doubt, the highlight of the Big Island! Learn about previous eruptions, walk in a volcano crater, see (and smell) Steam Vents and Sulphur Banks, visit the Holei Sea Arch and much, much more. Set aside a full day for this one.
Kona Coffee District
Perk up with some of the best coffee in the world – 100% Kona Coffee. This lovely and mountainous terroir is located not far past Kailua-Kona. There are numerous plantations and farm you can tour; as well as sample this delicious brew and buy some to bring home.
Punalu’u Black Sand Beach
Undoubtedly one of the most stunning beaches in the world, you’ve got to see it to believe it. Jet-black sand, lush green coconut groves and turquoise water make for an otherworldly experience. Hawaiian green sea turtles and pretty rainbows are frequent visitors, too.
Southernmost Point in the United States & Papakolea Green Sand Beach
Not far from the sleepy town of Naalehu, you’ll find the a dirt road heading towards the ocean. At the end of this dusty road is the southernmost point in the US. About two miles to the left, down a road which requires 4WD will lead you to Papakolea Beach, one of the only olive-hued beaches on the planet.
Akaka Falls & Botanical Gardens
Finally, don’t miss Akaka Falls State Park. A modern day Garden of Eden, if you will. Enjoy trails through the rainforest and lookouts facing the heavily Akaka Falls. Too pretty for words.
