Exploring the Nāpali Coast: Journey to Nature’s Masterpiece
The Nāpali Coast is one of the most recognizable locations in Hawaii. Situated on Kauai’s rugged north shore, it’s only a 90-minute drive from the epicenter of the island, Lihue, but it feels worlds apart. The Nāpali Coast is one of the must-see locations in all of Hawaii, but it is certainly not to be missed if you are visiting Kauai. Stick around as we learn more about this staggeringly beautiful area of Kauai.
Located in the center of the Nāpali coast, the Nāpali Coast State Park encompasses most of the area. Spanning approximately 17 miles, the only way to access this remote region is by air, sea or hiking. Features of this stunning area include towering cliffs, emerald valleys, native flora, cascading waterfalls, lush rainforests and more. Movie buffs will recognize several locations from various films and TV shows, too. Once upon a time, there were entire villages of Hawaiians living in the valleys of the Nāpali. They survived entirely on what they hunted and farmed from this fertile region.
Our favorite way to experience the wonders of the Nāpali Coast is by sea. There are snorkeling excursions on catamarans, raft tours that can enter the natural sea caves and arches (conditions permitting) and sunset dinner sails where you can watch the sun set against a backdrop of towering cliffs. The Kauai All-Inclusive Vacation Package, Affordable Kauai Vacation All-Inclusive Package and both 2-Island All-Inclusive Hawaii Packages include these options!
Other Ways to Experience the Nāpali Coast
Another great way to sight-see is by air – specifically a helicopter tour. Our favorite is a doors-off helicopter tour. This way you can also see some of the more remote valleys not visible from the ocean. There are even helicopter tours specifically for photography. Although our all-inclusive Kauai vacation packages don’t include a helicopter tour, there is ample open time to add one on. Research and reading reviews are a great way to decide which helicopter company is the right fit for you.
Caution:
Hiking down to the Kalalau Valley is considered one of the most dangerous and challenging hikes in Hawaii, so it’s strongly recommended that you only attempt to hike the Nāpali Coast if you’re an extremely skilled hiker in excellent physical condition. If you do hike here, you will need a permit.
However you visit, you will surely be mesmerized by its raw, unspoiled beauty. Contact us today to start planning your once-in-a-lifetime Kauai experience!
